Vincentian is currently licensed to provide rest home and hospital level care. Respite care is also offered when beds become available. Our medical care for all residents is of paramount importance and we have an enviable reputation for care quality.
Sue Delahunt, our Manager since 2004, is a Registered Nurse with a First Class Honours Degree in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies. Her nursing background mainly involved aged care.
Both the rest home and hospital are staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated team of registered nurses and experienced care givers. The nursing staff is supervised by our Clinical Manager, Mario Merlo, an experienced Registered Nurse who initially trained in Italy. All of our registered nurses team members have a special interest in aged-care nursing and all care givers are required to complete aged learning care certificates. All staff also receive on going education and training through our in-service education sessions. Staff turnover is very low so the staff get to know our residents individually ensuring an understanding of their personal needs.
In addition to our skilled staff and resources Vincentian has all essential care equipment including, but not limited to, electric beds throughout the Home; wheelchairs; walking frames; pressure relieving equipment and ceiling hoists in the hospital rooms.
Our contracted General Practitioner, Dr Helen Rodenburg from Island Bay Medical Centre, visits weekly and provides 24 hour, on-call medical cover. When she is unavailable cover is provided by her partners at the Medical Centre. We have a contracted physiotherapist, Louise Waghorn is our contracted physiotherapist who visits twice weekly and who has a special interest in aged care. Their services are provided to all residents without charge.
Louise also runs regular training sessions for our staff on how to move and transfer the residents safely.
Our recreational activities programme is run by Cathy Liew who is also a registered Occupational Therapist. Cathy has been with Vincentian for almost 25 years and remains passionate about her position. Please see more about our programme on the ENJOYING EACH DAY page.
For residents who require foot care we have a regular visiting podiatrist; Jason Lubranski, who charges a small fee for his services.
Vincentian provides respite care at both a rest home and hospital level subject to bed availability. Use of respite may be planned or may be required in an emergency such as when something unforeseen happens to the carer. Please contact us if you are interested in using this service.
From time to time residents need to attend off-site medical appointments such as for hospital specialist, x-ray and dental appointments. We encourage family members or friends to continue to accompany their relatives to these appointments. However if no-one is available we will organise a staff member to escort the resident. We provide free taxi transport (including wheelchair taxi) for these appointments.
